Beavs Move Into Second at Lady Rebel

Oxford, Miss. - With a 14 shot improvement from round one, the Oregon State women’s golf team jumped into second place after firing a 297 on Saturday, at the Lady Rebel Intercollegiate.



The Beavers’ two round total of 608 (311-297) leaves them 11 shots back of tournament leading Tulane at 597 (300-297).

Underclassmen led the Beavers in day two at the Country Club of Oxford, the par-72 6,132 yard course. Freshman Whitney French shot a career best, even-par 72, in the second round to vault into a tie for third-place after starting tied for 14th. French carded three birdies and three bogeys for the even-par round, a five shot improvement from her first round score of 77.

Tying French in third place is sophomore Cara Freeman after shooting a 1-over-par 73 to pair with her first round score of 76. French and Freeman each have a two-round total of 149 heading to the final round tomorrow, just three shots off the lead.

Freshman Elyse Okada also shot well, improving her first round score of 80 by five shots, carding a 3-over 75. Okada is tied for 21st with a 155.

Tying for 21st with Okada is junior Lauren Archer posting rounds of 78 and 77. And senior Martha Burkard rounds out the Beaver scoring with an 82 to accompany her first round 81 leaving her tied for 49th with a 163.

After two rounds Dori Carter of Mississippi leads the tournament with a pair of 73’s leaving her with a two-over-par 146.
