The No. 44-ranked California men's tennis team (9-7, 1-2 Pac-10) stormed the desert and LaNelle Robson Tennis Center today, to pull off a 4-2 upset victory over No. 20 Arizona (17-3, 2-2 Pac-10). The Golden Bears clinched the match as No. 81-ranked sophomore Pedro Zerbini completed his three-set triumph over No. 68 Jay Goldman on the top singles court, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Cal emerged ahead after claiming the doubles point for the 11th time this season. Zerbini teamed with senior Geoff Chizever (ranked No. 13 together) to get the Bears off on the right foot with an 8-4 win over No. 80 Pat Metham and Francois VanderMerwe at the top court. Freshman tandem Nick Andrews and Thai Tu secured the first point of the match as they finished off Goldman and Ravid Hazi at court three, 8-5. Court two's match was suspended after the doubles point was clinched.

In singles play, the Wildcats fired back with their first point when Andres Arango defeated senior Eoin Heavey, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. The Bears responded and went ahead, 2-1, with sophomore Bozhidar Katsarov's 6-2, 6-0 win over Metham at the fifth court. Arizona had another answer however, as Andres Carrasco fought off Andrews at court three to win, 6-4, 6-2, and tie things up at two points all.

After winning his first set, 7-5, Tu stayed on course with Hazi at court four until the two found themselves in a six-all tie for the second set. Tu buckled down and blasted Hazi with a 7-1 win in the second-set tiebreaker to put the Bears ahead, 3-2 in the match. It was Tu's 15th singles win of the year. On the top court, Zerbini got his team-high 19th singles win of the year and fifth in a row (fourth over a ranked player) to clinch the match for the Bears. No. 6 singles was suspended with the match clinched.

The Bears will host No. 18 Pepperdine (14-8) at the San Francisco Tennis Club (645 Fifth Street, San Francisco, Calif., 94107) on Tuesday, April 7, at 1 p.m. Cal will celebrate its seniors, Chizever and Heavey in pre-match ceremonies. There will be no live video for the match because of the change in venue.
