No. 11 Women of Troy Advance to Grand Finals at San Diego Crew Classic

The No. 11 Women of Troy showed well in the first day of the San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay, Calif. on Saturday. Overall the Women of Troy showed great in the first day of this prestigious regatta, qualifying for the grand final in every race they entered.
The varsity eight, which rowed in the Jessop-Whittier Cup heat B on Saturday morning preformed well, finishing first in the heat with a time of 6:40.11. The time qualifies USC for the grand final, which will occur on Sunday (April 5) at 9:15 a.m. Between both heats, USC's time of 6:40.11 was the second fastest overall. They were only eclipsed by Michigan who rowed a 6:37.76. Pac-10 rival Washington was on USC's heels, with a time of 6:40.62.
The JV eight, participating in the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness qualifying heat A finished in first with a time of 6:59.10. The JV crew will be rowing in the grand final for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness trophy at 10 a.m. USC's time in this race was the second-fastest in either heat, with Washington's time just one tenth of a second faster.
In the women's open category, USC came in first in heat A, finishing with a time of 7:12.9. USC will compete for the Carley Copley Cup at 11:20 a.m. on Sunday.
USC's novice squad came in second in the Laurel V. Korholz Perpetual trophy heat A, with a time of 7:31.39, qualifying them for the grand final at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
