Stanford Finishes Tied For 10th At PING/ASU Invitational

Tempe, Ariz. - After three days of golf versus some of the best teams in the nation, the Cardinal finished in a tie for 10th place at the PING/ASU Invitational from the Karesten ASU Golf Course. No. 25 Stanford completed a round of 19-over-par 307 on Sunday for a three-day total of 53-over-par 917.
No. 5 Oklahoma State came from behind on the final day, firing a sensational 1-over-par 289 in the final round to finish with a one stroke victory over No. 12 Purdue. The host, No. 2 Arizona State, finished third, five strokes back of the Oklahoma State. No. 4 USC and No. 28 New Mexico rounded out the top five.
Maria Hernandez of Purdue captured the individual medalist honor after carding a round of 2-under-par 70 on Sunday. Hernandez finished 5-under on the tournament for a one stroke lead over Jennifer Song of USC.
Stanford was led by freshman Sydney Burlison who tied for 11th place at 7-over-par 223. Burlison fired a round of 73 on Sunday to just miss climbing into the top-10 by one stroke. It would have been the first top-10 of the season for Burlison.
Mari Chun completed her tournament with a tough day on Sunday, falling to a tie for 27th with a final round of 8-over-par 80. Chun had been in the mix at the top of the tournament until Sunday and finished with a three-day total of 11-over-par 227.
Finishing in a tie for 63rd were Lila Barton and Rebecca Durham. Barton matched her best round of the tournament with a 6-over-par 78 on Sunday. Durham played her best golf of the weekend on Sunday with a round of 4-over-par 76 as both finished at 19-over-par 235 for the tournament.
Angela King rounded out the Stanford squad at 20-over-par 236 in a tie for 67th. King fired a round of 8-over-par 80 on Sunday.
The Cardinal will next compete when they host the Pac-10 Championships from April, 24-26, at the Stanford Golf Course. It will be the first time since 1999 that the Pac-10's return to Stanford, which was also the last time the Cardinal won the title.
