PULLMAN, Wash. - Niko Gallego collected three hits and three runs batted in to lead UCLA to a 9-5 victory over Washington State in Pacific-10 Conference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Sunday.

With the victory, UCLA (11-17, 5-4 Pac-10) avoided a three-game sweep by Washington State (12-13, 4-2 Pac-10). Trevor Bauer (4-3) worked six and two-thirds innings for the victory and Gavin Brooks recorded the final seven outs for his third save. WSU senior Jared Prince (1-3) suffered the loss for the Cougars.

'Trevor Bauer really competed and we left a lot of runners on base,' WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. 'We would have liked to have had the sweep, but we didn't do enough to help ourselves today.'

UCLA took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run home run by Cody Decker, then added five runs in the fourth with Gallego's two-run single being the key hit.

In the bottom of the fourth, senior Alex Burg led off with a double and senior Greg Lagreid was hit by a pitch. One out later, sophomore Matt Argyropoulos doubled off the top of the left field wall to score Burg and send Lagreid to third. After a sacrifice fly by sophomore Garry Kuykendall, redshirt-sophomore Cody Bartlett was hit by a pitch. Prince, who finished 3-for-3, followed with a run-scoring single to right that cut the Bruins' advantage to 7-3.

Prince added a RBI-double in the sixth before UCLA picked up single runs in the seventh and eighth to take a 9-4 lead. A RBI-ground out by Argyropoulos in the ninth capped the scoring.

Washington State continues its five-game homestand with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch, Monday against BYU.

Senior Jared Prince has hits in his last six at bats...senior Alex Burg was 1-for-4 and extended his career-best hitting streak to 10 games.
