UCLA To Compete In Evening Session At NCAA Gymnastics Championships

UCLA will compete in the evening session of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships Team Preliminaries. The competition takes place on Thursday, Apr. 16 at 7:00 pm CT at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, NE. The Bruins will begin competition on vault, as determined by a random draw conducted by the NCAA on Monday morning. Also competing in the evening session are Utah, Alabama, Oregon State, Arkansas and Illinois.
Competing in the afternoon session will be Georgia, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Stanford and Penn State.
The top three finishers from each preliminary session will advance to the Super Six Team Finals on Friday, Apr. 17 at 6:00 pm CT.
The five-time NCAA champion Bruins drew the Olympic rotation, beginning the meet on vault. After a bye, the Bruins will move to uneven bars, then balance beam, another bye and then will end the meet on floor exercise. Utah begins on a bye before bars, Illinois starts on bars, Oregon State begins on beam, Arkansas starts on a bye before floor, and Alabama begins on floor. Rotating with UCLA will be individual all-around qualifier Veronica Porte from San Jose State.
The 12 qualifying teams were re-seeded based on National Qualifying Score, which took the teams' Regional Championships score and combined it with their Regional Qualifying Score. Teams seeded 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12 were placed in one group, while teams seeded 2, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 were placed in the other group. The Bruins are the No. 7 seed.
UCLA has now qualified for 25 NCAA Gymnastics Championships.
