Wyoming Cowboy Classic Awaits Arizona JV

TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona’s Men’s Golf Team will send its JV squad to the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. Although the tournament is hosted by the University of Wyoming, the Cats will not have to travel far. The event will take place in Scottsdale, Ariz. at the Talking Stick Golf Club, a par 70, 7,133 yard course.

The JV team completed their last tournament just five days ago when they took sixth in the Anteater Invitational. The Cats were led by Andrew Kelly who earned the first top ten finish of his career, finishing tenth at eight over par. Host UC Irvine won the tournament by a copious amount, and Geoff Gonzalez of Cal Poly won the tournament individually.

UC Davis is the two time defending champion of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. It won the 2008 event with a score of 833 (-7). Troy Merritt of Boise State took home the individual medal last year.

In addition to Arizona, the field includes: Host Wyoming, Boise State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Idaho, Northwestern, Old Dominion, Oregon State, San Diego, San Diego State, San Jose State, Southern Utah, Texas, UC Davis, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, University of the Pacific, Utah, UTEP, Weber State and Western Carolina.

Arizona’s line up will include Philip Bagdade, Tom Conran, Andrew Kelly, John Kostis and Kenji Hernandez.

Two rounds will be held Monday and the final round will be on Tuesday. A shotgun start will occur at 7:45 a.m. PDT both days.
