No. 11 Women's Tennis Team Travels to the Desert

Women's Tennis Heads to Arizona
The No. 11 UCLA women's tennis team (15-5; 3-2 Pac-10) heads to Arizona this week for matches against No. 25 Arizona State (10-6; 3-2 Pac-10) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and Arizona (10-7; 1-4 Pac-10) on Saturday at Noon. It will mark the second time this season that UCLA has faced Arizona State, as the Bruins posted a 4-3 victory over the Sun Devils in a non-conference match at the LATC back on March 12. UCLA has not faced Arizona yet this season.

Bruins Enjoy Successful Swing Up North
Coming off conference losses to Stanford and Cal a week ago, the Bruins got back to their winning ways in the Pacific Northwest over the weekend, taking a pair of road wins over Washington and Washington State. UCLA began its trip in Seattle, posting a 5-2 victory over Washington. After dropping the doubles point, the Bruins won five of six singles matches to take the win. UCLA had a much easier time against Washington State the following day, winning 7-0.

Bruins Move up One to No. 11
UCLA climbed up one spot from No. 12 to No. 11 in the Campbell's ITA Rankings issued on Tuesday. The four other Pac-10 teams ranked in the top 25 are: Cal (#8), USC (#9), Stanford (#10) and Arizona State (#25). singles and doubles rankings were released last week. New team and individual rankings will be released next Tuesday.

Bruins and Trojans Clash Set for April 17
UCLA will round out the regular season on April 17, as the Bruins will travel across town to face No. 9 USC at 1:30 p.m. It will mark the second meeting of the season between the two teams, as UCLA edged USC, 4-3 in a non-conference match back on March 5 at the LATC. It marked the fifth straight win in the series for the Bruins.

Ojai Just Around the Corner
The annual Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif. is roughly two weeks away, as this year's tournament will run from April 23-26. The individual tournament features two flights (Main Draw & Invitational Draw) for both singles and doubles. UCLA won both singles titles last year, with Riza Zalameda winning the main draw, and Alex McGoodwin taking the Invitational crown. Yasmin Schnack and Zalameda were the last Bruin tandem to win the main draw doubles title, capturing it in 2007. More information about the tournament can be found at

Schnack in the 20-Win Club
Yasmin Schnack is currently the only member of the team in the 20-win club, as the Bruin junior takes a 21-7 overall singles record into this week's showdowns with ASU and Arizona. Ranked No. 16 nationally in singles, Schnack has won 13 of her last 16 matches. She is also 10-6 against ranked opponents this season. Andrea Remynse will likely be the next player to reach the 20-win mark, as she is currently 18-11 on the year.

NCAA Tournament Announcements
Selections for the 2009 NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will be announced on April 28 at 2:20 p.m. (PST) on ESPNews. Host sites for first and second round regional play will also be announced. A total of 128 teams will participate in this year's NCAA Tournament (64 men's & 64 women's). Teams that advance through regional play will earn the right to travel to College Station, Texas for the round of 16 on up. UCLA is the defending champion on the women's side, while Georgia captured the men's title last year.
