WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- WASHINGTON senior second baseman Ashley Charters and junior pitcher Danielle Lawrie were named the Pac-10 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Charters, a native of Beaverton, Ore., helped the Huskies sweep the Arizona schools and extended her hitting streak to a career high 16 games.  The senior batted .636 on the weekend, batting in three runs and recording a stolen base, a double and a home run.

On Sunday against Arizona State, Charters scored all three runs for Washington in its 3-2 victory over the Sun Devils, including hitting the game winning walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh.  With her five runs on the weekend, Charters moves into second on the Washington all-time career runs scored list.

This is Charter second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor of her career and second on the year.

Lawrie, a native of Langley, British Columbia, went 3-0 over the weekend as Washington hosted No. 9/14 Arizona and No. 4/8 Arizona State.  The junior recorded a 1.67 ERA in a three-game span against the top-two scoring offenses in the nation.

Most impressive of all last weekend, Lawrie threw her third career no hitter against Arizona, a team that leads the nation in batting average, scoring, home runs and slugging percentage.  Lawrie, the first pitcher since 2000 to shut out the Wildcats, was one walk off of a perfect game.  In addition to no hitting Arizona, Lawrie limited Arizona State, the nation's second-ranked scoring offense to only 5 runs in it's two game series against Washington.  The Sun Devils entered the weekend averaging over 7.5 runs per game.

Lawrie has been named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the week four times this season and earns the eighth honor of her career.  Charters and Lawrie are the 65th and 66th all-time Pac-10 Players of the Week for Washington.
