Men's Basketball Ends Season With Top-25 Ranking

April 8, 2009

TUCSON, Ariz. - Bolstered by an appearance in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16, the University of Arizona men's basketball team finished the 2008-09 campaign with a top-25 ranking.

The Wildcats garnered the No. 24 slot in the final edition of the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, which was released Tuesday. It was the only time that Arizona was ranked all season.

The end-of-season ranking continues a streak that has seen the Wildcats ranked in at least one polling period for 22 consecutive seasons. UA has finished the season with a national ranking 17 times in those 22 seasons. Additionally, the Cats have been nationally ranked for better than 80 percent of the combined polling periods (629 of 778/.807) in both the Associated Press and the Coaches polls since the streak began in 1987-88.

Arizona (21-14, 9-9 Pac-10) advanced to the 2009 Midwest Regional Semifinal in Indianapolis in what was the program's 25th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. It also was the program's 13th Sweet 16 berth.
