April 9, 2009
TEMPE, Ariz. - The Sun Devil Softball squad (34-7 overall, 4-2 Pac-10) hit the road again this weekend for one of their toughest weekends of the season as they travel to Tucson, Ariz. to face-off against in-state rival: the tenth-ranked Arizona Wildcats. The weekend will kick-off on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Hillebrand Stadium in Tucson. Game two will be Saturday night at 7 p.m. as well at Hillenbrand Stadium.
Series History & Scouting Report
Since 1971 the Sun Devils and the Wildcats have locked horns a grand total of 175 times, with the Wildcats holding the edge in the series history as they’ve claimed 92 wins to ASU’s 83 of those 175 meetings. Last season, ASU made history en route to their first NCAA Championship and part of it came with the sweep of the University of Arizona, the first time in 20 years. In addition, ASU also claimed their first win ever at Hillenbrand Stadium, a stat they hope to pad this weekend.
The Sun Devils will return home next weekend to their friendly confines of Farrington Stadium as Pac-10 play continues as they set to host the Cal Bears and Stanford Cardinal. They’ll take on the Bears on Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m. and Stanford on April 18 at 7 p.m. and April 19 at noon.
