April 9, 2009
Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball team will host its spring tournament on Saturday, Apr. 11, in legendary Gill Coliseum with play beginning at 9:00 a.m. and lasting until approximately 4:00 p.m.
Seattle Pacific, Portland State, Western Washington and Western Oregon will join the Beavers. Ralph Miller Court will be divided into two courts, and the matches will consist of a best-of-three format with the first sets being played to 25 and the third set, if necessary, being played to 15.
In conjunction with the tournament, raffle winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m. during the lunch break. Raffle tickets were first sold on Saturday, Apr. 4, when the Oregon State volleyball team took part in a fundraiser for 4-year-old Dylan Cain, a local child who suffers from cerebral palsy and is scheduled to take part in a stem cell project using the stem cells collected from his umbilical cord at birth at Duke University. For more information on Dylan, visit www.help4dylan.com.
Tickets are available through Saturday by contacting Mark or Jinger Cain at (541) 754-7177. Prizes include a USA player jersey from when head coach Taras Liskevych was the USA National Team coach and volleyballs and shirts/practice jerseys signed by current Oregon State players. Winners do not need to be present, however those that are at the tournament will receive a bonus prize.
The Beavers return nine players from the 2008 season, including five starters. Wins over No. 13 Wisconsin and No. 4 USC highlighted last season and the program’s first All-American in Rachel Rourke capped the year.
Oregon State will continue its spring schedule at Oregon on Tuesday, May 5, before hosting Western Oregon on Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m., as part of the Willamette Classic.
