, Ariz. – The Arizona baseball team dropped the series finale to No. 16 Oregon State, 8-3, on a Saturday afternoon at Jerry Kindall Field that was mixed with rain and sunshine.

One day after picking up its first win over a ranked team, Arizona (14-16, 3-9 Pac-10) had neither enough hitting nor enough pitching to pull off a second consecutive upset.

Oregon State (20-7, 7-2 Pac-10) roughed up Arizona starter Donn Roach for four runs in the fourth inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead.

The Wildcats quickly answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second, but Arizona never seriously threatened again as OSU starter Jorge Reyes settled in and cruised to his fifth win of the season.

The OSU right hander tossed 7 2/3 innings, allowing only the three second inning runs and scattered eight hits while striking out five.

Arizona mustered only four hits over the final seven innings, which put to rest any chance of a comeback attempt despite an outstanding relief performance by Daniel Workman.

Workman turned in 3 2/3 innings and allowed only one run on one hit to keep UA within striking distance. But the Wildcats never did put a rally together.

Oregon State added two insurance runs in the seventh and one more in the ninth to set the game at its final, 8-3.

Arizona will take a quick break from non-conference action as it hosts New Mexico for a two-game, mid-week series beginning on Tuesday, April 14. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jerry Kindall Field.
