SAN DIEGO - Right-hander Garett Claypool totaled a career-high eight strikeouts and no walks to lead the UCLA baseball team past No. 15 San Diego State, 7-3, on Tuesday evening at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Trailing 3-2 in the top of the eighth, the Bruins (14-19) scored five runs and held on for the victory.

After a fielder's choice, center fielder Blair Dunlap doubled to right field, scoring Murray and shortstop Niko Gallego. A bunt single to third base allowed Dunlap to score from third base.

The Bruins were led at the plate by Murray, who went 2-for-6 with three RBI and one run. First baseman Cody Decker (2-for-4) and right fielder Justin Uribe (2-for-2) were the only other Bruins to notch multiple-hit efforts. Rahmatulla reached base safely in each of his first three plate appearances, recording an RBI-single before drawing a walk and being hit by a pitch.

San Diego State scored its first two runs in the first and second innings, receiving solo homers by second baseman Mitch Blackburn and right fielder Brandon Meredith, respectively.

After Blackburn's solo blast, UCLA tied the contest in the top of the second. Left fielder Gabe Cohen led off the frame with a single through the right side of the infield and stole second base. After Rahmatulla drew a walk on 13 pitches, Murray laced a bases-loaded single into left field, scoring Cohen.

The Aztecs pushed ahead, 2-1, with a solo homer to straight-away center field on a full count by right fielder Cory Vaughn in the bottom of the second. UCLA answered in the next frame, tying the contest 2-2 with an RBI-single to right field by Rahmatulla, allowing Cohen to score from second base.
