Cougars to Dual Three Ranked Opponents in Columbus

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University women's rowing team, led by the No. 12 varsity eight, along with the varsity four, second varsity eight and first novice eight will race at Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio, the home course of the Ohio State Buckeyes, April 17 and 18...Friday, starting at 9 a.m., Cougar crews will race in heats against No. 5 Michigan State...starting at 1 p.m. Friday WSU will dual No. 4 Michigan...Saturday at 9 a.m. the third set of races for the weekend will put the Cougars up against No. 8 Ohio State...other teams in competition in this weekend's race on the Scioto River include No. 12 Oregon State and Bucknell.

About the Competition: Last week Michigan State defeated Big-10 opponents No. 16 Wisconsin and No. 18 Iowa...Michigan is coming off a successful weekend at home, in which the Wolverines won 11 of 12 races including varsity eight victories over Wisconsin and Louisville...Ohio State defeated 2008 NCAA Champion-Brown, Notre Dame and Indiana last weekend, earning the Buckeye varsity eight Big Ten Boat of the Week honors for the second-consecutive week.

For the Record Book: The Cougars' trip to Ohio this weekend will mark their first race in Columbus in program history...last time WSU faced off with Michigan, two weeks ago at the San Diego Crew Classic, the Cougar varsity eight placed sixth behind the Wolverines which won the Jessop-Whittier Cup, finishing approximately nine seconds ahead of WSU...the Cougars last matched up with Ohio State and Michigan State at the 2008 NCAA Championships, where the Buckeyes finished seventh overall, one standing ahead of WSU, and the Spartans finished sixth overall.

WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere on this week's race: 'We are excited to test ourselves against a different conference; really it's just a great challenge.'

Pac-10 Boats in the Rankings: Each of the seven Pac-10 schools with women's rowing programs have their varsity eight ranked in this week's CRCA/U.S. Rowing Varsity Eight Top-20 poll...No. 2 Stanford, No.3 California, No. 7 Washington, No. 10 USC, tied at No. 12 WSU and Oregon State and No. 19 UCLA...Oregon, Arizona and Arizona State do not have teams.

Last Week: The Cougars raced against Washington Saturday, April 11, at Wawawai Landing. WSU dropped five races, relinquishing head-to-head bragging rights after defeating the Huskies the past three years.
