Barkley hit 83.3% of his passes (15-of-18) for 186 yards, including a 14-yard score to Cameron, but he also had a short toss picked off by defensive end Malik Jackson, who returned it 42 yards for a TD. Corp was good on 72.2% of his aerials (13-of-18) but did not throw a touchdown. Fellow quarterback Mitch Mustain was 3-of-6 for 33 yards.

McNeal rushed for 62 yards on 10 carries, including a 5-yard score, while Johnson had a 4-yard scoring run among his 5 carries for 14 yards. Tailback Marc Tyler ran for 49 yards on 9 tries.

Wide receiver Damian Williams caught 4 passes for 129 yards, including consecutive receptions of 32 and 46 yards from Corp. Cameron (49 yards) and fellow wideout David Ausberry (44 yards) also had 4 catches. Fullback Stanley Havili (32 yards) and wide receivers Brice Butler (31 yards), Ronald Johnson (29 yards) and Scott Stephens (22 yards) each added 3 receptions.

Ronald Johnson returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, while defensive end Eric Childs ran 18 yards for a score with a punt blocked by safety Ryan Mahon.

Placekickers Jordan Congdon (22 and 35 yards) and Joe Houston (23 yards) both kicked field goals.

Linebacker Malcolm Smith had 8 tackles, linebacker Chris Galippo added 7 stops and a pass deflection and defensive end Everson Griffen had 3.5 sacks among his 5 tackles. McMahon had 6 tackles and cornerback T.J. Bryant had 5 tackles, while Jackson and linebacker Michael Morgan both had 2 tackles for losses. Cornerback Justin Hart had an interception.

'It was a fun scrimmage,' said ninth-year USC head coach Pete Carroll. 'We played really hard, with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. It was nice and tight.

'The quarterbacks' numbers were good again, except for the pick. McNeal ran well again and so did Tyler. The wide receivers came through very well. Nobody could block Griffen, Smith was all over the field and Galippo played well.'
