Chaney Sweeps Hurdles as Sun Devils Finish Strong at Mt. SAC Relays

TEMPE – Jasmine Chaney won her second hurdle race of the weekend and collected one of nine regional qualifying marks as the Arizona State University track and field team completed action at the 51st Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Saturday evening. Chaney, who lowered her personal-best time by 0.03 seconds, also was a part of two successful relays on the day, including the victorious 4x400m relay.
Chaney opened the day with a winning time of 13.61 in the 100m hurdles to improve the ninth-best time in school history before joining Dominique’ Maloy, Shauntel Elcock and Charonda Williams to run 44.17 (second place) in the 4x100m relay. At the end of the day, Chaney was a part of her third victory on the weekend as she ran with Maloy, Jeavon Benjamin and Williams to clock a time of 3:37.10, more than six seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Williams also had a strong day individually as she won the 200m dash invitational with a time of 22.84 and also took seventh in the 100m dash in 11.64. Another relay runner, Benjamin, clocked a regional qualifying time of 53.87 in the 400m dash while Maloy was just off the standard for the regional meet with her time of 54.77.
On the men’s side, both relays posted regional qualifying times, including the 4x400m relay of Ray Miller, Darryl Elston, Mason McHenry and Justin Kremer (exact time was not known at time of the release). Elston was joined by Bryan Williams, Allante Battle and Marcus Duncan in running 40.25 in the 4x100m relay while Duncan also qualified in the 200m dash with a time of 21.20. The final individual runner on the day was Kremer, who ran 48.90 in the open 400m dash.
The Sun Devils will have athletes competing in three meets next weekend, including the Sun Devil Invitational in Tempe while select individuals will compete in the UC San Diego Triton Invitational and the Cardinal Classic (Stanford).
