The No. 39-ranked California men's tennis team (10-10, 2-4 Pac-10) suffered a 6-1 setback to rival No. 8 Stanford (18-5, 3-3 Pac-10) to close out the regular season dual schedule today at the Taube Family Tennis Center. Sophomore Bozhidar Katsarov picked up the only singles win for the Golden Bears as he defeated Matt Bruch at court four, 6-1, 6-2, to knot the score at one-all.

Cal got off to a rough start as the Cardinal claimed the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. No. 30-ranked Blake Muller and Richard Wire fought off a strong Cal charge to get the first win of the day with an 8-5 decision over sophomore tandem Jonathan Dahan and Katsarov. At the top court, Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher secured the doubles point as the survived every punch thrown by No. 15-ranked senior Geoff Chizever and sophomore Pedro Zerbini to win, 8-6. Cal's freshman duo of Nick Andrews and Thai Tu took home their ninth win together as they defeated Bruch and Alex Clayton, 8-7, on court three.

Katsarov made short work of Bruch in singles play as he set the Bears up with their first point of the day. The Cardinal responded in kind as No. 122-ranked Wire came off court five with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Tu to put Stanford up, 2-1. Tu stayed the course with Wire in the second set but Wire was able to wrestle away the final two games of the set to earn the match victory. At No. 2 singles, No. 20-ranked Clayton duplicated his set scores with a 6-4, 6-4 win over senior Eoin Heavey, to give Stanford a 3-1 lead.

At court three, Andrews went toe-to-toe with Thacher but surrendered the first set, 6-4, to his Cardinal counterpart. Andrews continued to fight in the second but Thacher's fight proved to be stronger as he came away with a 7-5 win to clinch the victory for the Cardinal. With the match decided, Stanford added two more points on the day with singles wins at the top court and court six.

After winning his first set, 6-3, No. 58-ranked Zerbini allowed No. 52-ranked Klahn to control the second set to win 6-0. Heading into the third with momentum, Klahn continued to hold the upper hand and finished Zerbini off, 6-2. As the last match off the courts, Muller took a 6-4, 6-4 win against Dahan at court six.

The Bears will head to the Ojai Valley Tennis Club in Ojai, Calif. for the Pacific-10 Tennis Championships next weekend, April 23-26.
