Huskies Fifth After First Day At Buckeye Invite

April 18, 2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Washington women's golf team finished the first day of the Lady Buckeye Invitational in fifth place, and in position to advance up the standings at The Ohio State University's Scarlet Course on Saturday.

Despite a team finish of a 34-over 610 over two rounds Saturday, the Huskies have a pair of golfers inside the top 10 in sophomore Anya Alvarez and Molly Aronsson. Alvarez, who led the field early on in the first round by birdying four of her first nine holes, finished in a tie for seventh at 5-over (148) overall.

'There was the same frustration today that we've had all season,' said UW coach Mary Lou Mulflur. 'We weren't very patient on a good course and you've got to know that you're going to make bogeys -- you've just got to get over it. Those kind of snowballed on us today.'

Atop the team standings is the host Ohio State University at 13-over (589), and Buckeye In Hong Lim is in front of the pack, shooting a 2-under 142. Aronsson, who is in a tie for ninth place at 6-over (149), played relatively consistent all day for the Huskies around just a few over par per nine holes. She is followed by teammates Christina Yoon, who is tied for 30th place at 12-over (156), Sadena Parks, who is tied for 42nd place (158) and Karinn Dickinson, who is tied for 51st place (160).

The Huskies will play the final round on Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring is available at
