No. 14 California Falls at No. 9 Arizona

TUCSON, ARIZ. -
The No. 14 California Golden Bears (29-14, 5-6 Pac-10) lost 11-2 to the Arizona Wildcats Saturday night in Tucson. Valerie Arioto drove in both runs for the Bears.
The Bears fell into a deep hole early when the Wildcats scored eight runs in the bottom of the first off junior starting pitcher Marissa Drewrey. The Wildcats hit a pair of grand slams in the inning to take an 8-0 lead. They added two more runs in the third and one in the fourth off sophomore reliever Valerie Arioto to take an 11-0 lead.
The Bears scored both of their runs in the top of the fifth and final inning. Junior Vernae Sevilla hit a one-out single to left field. After being replaced on the base path by freshman Frani Echavarria, Arioto slammed a home run over the right field wall to plate a pair of runs for the Bears.
Arioto had two of the Bears' five hits, going 2-for-3, including hitting her eighth home run of the season. Sevilla was 2-for-2. Junior Shannon Thomas had the fifth hit for the Bears. Thomas also logged her 24th stolen base of the season.
The Bears and the Wildcats will close out their series Sunday, April 19 with a game at 12 noon in Tucson. Live stats will be available through Gametracker on CalBears.com.
