Washington State Outlasted by No. 30 Washington

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team was outlasted by the No. 30 Washington Huskies Saturday in the regular season finale, 6-1, at the Bill Quillian Courts.
The Huskies jumped out to the early lead after managing to win all three doubles matches, earning the opening point.
At No. 1 doubles, Ekaterina Kamendova and Aleksandra Cekic battled the 36th-ranked tandem Joyce Ardies and Denise Dy. The Huskies teammates were able to outlast the Cougars earning a victory, 8-3. At the No. 2 slot, Marina Nicolas and Bianca Selaru battled the 78th-ranked doubles team of Venise Chan and Aleksandra Malovic. The UW pairing proved to be too much for the Cougars tandem earning the win, 8-1.
In singles action, Fournier picked up the lone victory for the Cougars in a three-set match. The WSU sophomore downed Xu, 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-3. With the victory, Fournier has posted 22 victories on the season.
At the No. 1 position, Kamendova fell to No. 20 Venise Chan, 6-2, 6-1, while Cekic suffered a tough loss to No. 77 Denis Dy, 6-1, 6-1.
At the No. 4 position, Nicolas was upended by Smith, 6-2, 6-3. Selaru fell to Ardies at the No. 5 slot, 6-4, 6-1, while Gomez was outlasted by Malovic, 6-2, 6-2.
The Cougars will return to action April 23-25, when they travel to Ojai, Calif., for the Pacific-10 Championships.
