Softball Drops Sunday Contest to No. 4 Washington

Corvallis, Ore. – Despite a late surge by the Oregon State softball offense, the Beavers fell in Sunday’s game to No. 4 Washington, 7-1, at the OSU Softball Complex.


Freshman Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.) earned the first hit for the Beavers with a leadoff single in the first inning. Junior Tarah Black (Portland, Ore.) also reached in the fifth on a leadoff walk.


With two outs in the final inning, sophomore Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) ripped one to the centerfield fence, to earn her fifth double of the season. Senior Stefanie Ewing (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored senior Kellie Roberts (Stayton, Ore.), who was pinch running for Roderfeld, in the next at bat with a single to right field to score Oregon State’s lone run.


Freshman Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) was charged with the loss after throwing 2.1 total innings. Redshirt freshman Karmen Holladay (Corvallis, Ore.) pitched 4.2 innings of relief before Hall reentered in the top of the seventh.


Ashley Charters led the Husky offense with a 3-for-4 performance, tallying a pair of RBI and a run. Pitcher Danielle Lawrie improved to 25-4 after pitching the complete game.


Oregon State heads to the Bay Area next weekend to face No. 14 California on Friday at 3:00 p.m. The Beavers then will square off against No. 2 Stanford on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 and 12:00 p.m.
