April 19, 2009

STANFORD, Calif.- Junior Kevin Tucker led the Washington State men's golf team at the U.S. Intercollegiate, finishing in a tie for 26th place Sunday at the par-70, 6,727-yard Stanford University Golf Course.

Tucker opened with a 67 (-3) in the first round and fired a 72 (+2) in the second round to enter the final day 1-under par 139. In the final round he carded a 71 (+1) to finish with a three-round score of 210 (E), only four strokes out of the top 10.

Freshman Trent Sanders led the Cougars in the final round with an even-par score to finish with a three-round score of 211 (+1).

'Kevin and Trent had solid tournaments but we need more help through the lineup,' said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams.

Sophomore Nick Ellis recorded a hole-in-one on the 172-yard No.8 hole in the second round. He finished with a three-round score of 223 (+13).

Freshman Paul Mitzel posted a 233 (+23) and junior Austin Hurt carded a 236 (+26) to wrap up the Cougar scorers.

The Cougars posted a combined team score of 873 (+33) to finish in 15th place.

'We played poorly in the middle of the round and we got a few back at the end but weren't able to finish it. We will get a solid week of practice in this week and get read for Pac-10's,' said Williams.

Next up for the Cougars is the Pacific-10 Championships, April 27-29 in Seattle.
