Cal's Jeff Kobernus Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. - California junior second baseman Jeff Kobernus has been named the Pac-10 Baseball Player of the Week and UCLA freshman right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer has been named Pitcher of the Week for April 13-19, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Kobernus went 11-for-19 (.579), with two doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI last week in Cal games at Stanford, at UC Davis and three-game series versus Oregon. The San Leandro native was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI April 13 at Stanford, 3-for-5 with a two-run double and two-run homer for four RBI April 14 at UC Davis, 2-for-3 with a grand slam and a sacrifice fly versus Oregon April 17 and 3-for-4 with a two-run homer versus the Ducks on April 19. Kobernus is currently on an eight-game hitting streak (16-for-30, .533, 2-2B, 3-HR, 13 RBI) from April 9.
On the year, Kobernus is batting .338 with eight doubles, a triple, four home runs and 29 RBI. He is third in the Pac-10 with 52 hits, seventh in the league with 10 stolen bases and 10th in the conference with his .338 average.
This is the first player of the week honor for Kobernus and the 44th all-time for Cal.
Cal will next travel to Stanford for a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. at Sunken Diamond. The Bears will then host No. 2-ranked Arizona State in a three-game Pac-10 series beginning on Friday, April 24 at 2:30 p.m. at Evans Diamond.
