'It wasn't pretty early, but we got some good relief outings and wound up playing a pretty good ball game from the fifth inning on,' WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. 'Greg Lagreid gave us a big lift offensively.'

The score was tied 7-7 after six innings before the Cougars broke the game open in the seventh. With one out, sophomore Matt Argyropoulos singled and scored on a triple by freshman Patrick Claussen. Lagreid followed with a two-run single that capped the rally and put the Cougars ahead 13-7.

Junior Connor Lambert (1-0) worked two shutout innings in relief to earn the victory and sophomore James Wise pitched the final three frames for his first-career save.

Washington State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a RBI-double by Lagreid, but gave up a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first.
