Berkeley, Calif. – The Oregon State softball team tied the school record for double plays with 28 total on the season, led by senior Paige Lowe’s (Tustin, Calif.) 20, but the Beavers fell 11-2 to No. 15 California on Friday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field.

Freshman Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.) led the Beavers with a 2-for-3 outing, adding a stolen base. Three other Oregon State batters racked up hits, including sophomore McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) tallied a late single, beating out the throw from shortstop Taylor Kelly in the top of the fifth.

P. Lowe set up the Beavers for the team’s two runs in the top of the fourth on her leadoff double down the left field line, fouling off a pair before finding her pitch. Sophomore Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) blasted one barely fair down the left field line next to clear the bases and cut the Bears’ lead down a couple.

Junior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) was charged with the loss after throwing 1.1 innings, facing seven in the second and giving up only one earned run. Her record now sits at 10-14. Freshman Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) threw the remaining innings for the Beavers.

Cal’s Bernice Masaniai led the Golden Bears’ offense with a pair of home runs, while Valerie Arioto tallied a three-run homer. Pitcher Marissa Drewrey earned the complete game win, improving to 17-10 on the season.
