Barte Stunned In Semis, Perez/Yen To Play For Doubles Title
April 25, 2009
STANFORD, Calif.- Top-seeded Hilary Barte's quest for a Pac-10 singles title was stopped short on Saturday afternoon in the semifinal round of the Pac-10 Championships at Ojai, Calif.
Barte was outlasted by USC's Amanda Fink, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 (5). The loss was Barte's first in almost two months, snapping a 13-match winning streak since a 6-3, 4-6, (10-7) defeat to Washington's Venise Chan back on Feb. 28.
As it turns out, only one Stanford doubles team is left in the draw.
That would be the pairing of Isamarie Perez and Jennifer Yen, which outlasted Oregon's Siobhan Cavan and Stephanie Macfarlane 9-8 (6) to reach Sunday's title match in the invitational division. Perez and Yen will face UCLA's Maya Johansson and Anna-Viktoria Lind.
Stanford's No. 2 doubles team of Carolyn McVeigh and Jessica Nguyen also competed Saturday, falling to Arizona State's Nadia Abdala and Leila Abdala 8-6 in the semifinals of the championship division.
