The Cardinal team scored on 4 consecutive mid-game possessions and then held off a driving White squad at the end of the game to post a 16-10 victory in the USC football team's annual Trojan Huddle 110-play intrasquad game before 22,565 fans in the Coliseum on Saturday (April 25) that concluded USC's spring practice.

After placekicker Jordan Congdon opened the scoring with a 29-yard field goal for the White team, the Cardinal squad responded by marching 67 yards, culminated by an 8-yard scoring pass from quarterback Aaron Corp to wide receiver Jordan Cameron. The touchdown came a play after Corp's 41-yard pass to tight end Rhett Ellison

The Cardinal team then saw placekicker Joe Houston hit field goals of 43 and 37 yards on its next 2 possessions, with the second kick coming at the halftime gun.

The Cardinal scored again on its opening possession of the second half, with Congdon (who kicked for both sides) connecting on a 23-yard field goal.

Tailback Marc Tyler had a 4-yard TD run for the White team late in the game. The White squad then drove to the Cardinal's 8-yard line, but defensive end Nick Perry sacked quarterback Mitch Mustain on fourth-and-6 on the game's final play.

Perry had 6 tackles for a loss, including 4 sacks, among his 7 tackles.

Corp completed 14-of-23 passes for 157 yards, Mustain was 7-of-12 for 85 yards with an interception and Matt Barkley--who played for both teams--was a combined 12-of-20 for 124 yards with a pair of picks.

Cameron caught 4 passes for 38 yards. Wide receiver Travon Patterson had 7 receptions for 57 yards and wide receiver Brice Butler added 5 catches for 50 yards. Four Trojans had 3 receptions each: Ellison (64 yards) and wide receivers Damian Williams (38 yards), Ronald Johnson (35 yards) and Brandon Carswell (29 yards).

Tailback C.J. Gable was the leading rusher, getting 53 yards on 5 carries, including a 45-yard gain. Tyler added 44 yards on 7 carries.

Cornerback T.J. Bryant had an interception and fumble recovery, while linebacker Marshall Jones and linebacker Nick Garratt also had interceptions. Jones posted 7 tackles, as did cornerback Kevin Thomas, who also had 3 pass break-ups.

'The defense shined today,' said ninth-year USC head coach Pete Carroll. 'The defense had lots of chances and the rush was really good. The offense was a little sloppy.

'But, all in all, we had a fantastic spring. Guys really elevated their games.'

Seven-time defending Pac-10 champion USC opens its 2009 season on Sept. 5 when it hosts San Jose State.
