USC Earns Great Grades At CSLA And UC San Diego This Weekend

USC's track and field athletes posted a number of PRs and six new NCAA Regional qualifying-marks while competing this weekend (April 24-25) at the Tiny Lister Classic at CS Los Angeles and at the UC San Diego Invitational.
Junior Judith Onyepunuka had perhaps her best day on the track for USC as she posted two regional marks with a new PR in the 200m dash with a time of 23.81 and her collegiate best and PR-tying time of 11.68 in the 100m race on April 25 at the Tiny Lister Classic. Her 100m time was the tops at the meet and she placed third in the 200m.
Winning the 200m at the Tiny Lister Classic was freshman Dalilah Muhammad with a time of 23.62. Her first 200m race for USC qualified her for the West Regional. Her first 100m HH race for USC was also a winning effort and a regional qualifier as won with a time of 13.87, the fourth Trojan this season to go under 14.0 seconds.
Freshman Aareon Payne placed second in both the 100m and 200m with times of 11.73 and 23.78 in the respective sprints.
Freshman Duane Walker set a PR in the 400m race with a time of 46.69, the top mark by a college runner at the Tiny Lister Classic. His time was a regional qualifier and the best 400m time by a Trojan this season.
Another freshman to qualify for the West Regional was Joey Hughes, who raced to a 21.17 time in his first 200m dash as a Trojan, USC's fastest time this season.
Other Trojans with PRs at the Tiny Lister Classic were senior Christine Greer in the 1500m (4:45.75), sophomore Sean Jackson in the 100m and 200m (10.91 and 22.02), freshman Dijon Morissette in the 200m (22.44), freshman Scott DeYoung in the 400m (48.43) and sophomore John Carley in the 1500m (4:02.64).
At the UC San Diego Invitational, senior Eva Orban had the best hammer throw by a collegian and second overall of 224-7 (68.45m) on April 24. That same day, senior Katalin Mate placed 16th in the women's discus with a throw of 159-11 (48.74m). Posting PRs in the discus were freshman Ashley Pyka (152-1), Marissa Minderler (143-5) and Orban (140-5).
USC had three men's pole vaulter finish in the top 10 at the UC San Diego Invitational on April 25: redshirt junior Derek Scott (T-3rd, 16-6 3/4), redshirt junior Brandon Estrada (9th, 16-6 3/4) and senior Charles Fasi (10th, 16-0 3/4).
All three Trojan hammer thrower posted marks over 190 feet, led by redshirt senior Mike Curiel who threw a season-best 193-10 (59.08m) to place eighth. Redshirt senior Brian Wilhelm was ninth with a throw of 192-6 (58.67m) and sophomore Trey Henderson was 11th with a mark of 190-7 (58.09m).
Redshirt junior Colin Campbell had a new PR in the discus with a throw of 188-5 (57.44m) to place ninth, third among college athletes. Fellow redshirt junior Aaron Dan placed 10th with a throw of 187-10 (57.25m).
