Victor Butler Selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 4th Round

April 26, 2009

Former Oregon State defensive end Victor Butler has been drafted with the 10th pick in the 4th round (110 overall) by the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in the 2009 National Football League Draft.

Butler earned four letters while starting all 13 games as a senior. The Rialto, Calif. native earned All-Pac-10 first team in 2008 and was a member of the Ted Hendricks Award watch list, which goes to the top defensive end in the country. Butler burst onto the defensive scene at Oregon State as a junior recording 10.5 sacks as a speed rusher. As a senior, he recorded 12 sacks, including tying an OSU single game record 4 sacks in the Sun Bowl, giving him 25.5 takedowns in his career - good for second all-time for the Orange and Black.

Butler, who may play outside linebacker at the next level, is the first Oregon State defensive end to be selected in the NFL Draft since Bill Swancutt was taken in the sixth round in 2005 by the Detroit Lions.

Butler joins Andy Levitre (2nd/51st) and Keenan Lewis (3rd/96th) as Beaver alums taken in the 2009 draft, marking the first time since 2005 that the Beavers have had three former players have been taken in the NFL Draft - Bill Swancutt (6th/Lions), Derek Anderson (6th/Ravens) and Doug Nienhuis (7th/Seahawks).
