Palmer First to Sign as Free Agent
April 27, 2009
TUCSON - Arizona senior linebacker Ronnie Palmer, the Cats' four-year man in the middle with 41 starts, has agreed to a free agent deal with the Washington Redskins following the two-day NFL Draft Saturday and Sunday, according to the team's web site.
Palmer was Arizona's leading tackler with 85 in 2008, plus led the squad with 11 tackles for loss. He also had 2.5 sacks and intercepted a pass his senior year.
He finished his UA career with 43 games played and 275 tackles, just shy of the top 20 on the Wildcats' historical chart.
Along with Palmer, other UA players expected to be possible free agents include safety Nate Ness, apparently working on negotiations with the Cleveland Browns, and cornerback Marquis Hundley, who said he had a tryout scheduled at a Chicago Bears mini-camp. Kicker Jason Bondzio and quarterback Willie Tuitama were said to be in contact with some teams.
