California returns to Stanford for the third time this season for the Payton Jordan Invitational this weekend on Saturday, May 2. The field events begin at 3 p.m. with the hammer and the running events begin at 4:30 p.m.with the 100-meter hurdles. The Cal men moved up from No. 23 to No. 12 in this week's USTFCCCA rankings and the Cal women are just outside of the Top 25 at No. 26.

Last Time Out: Records Shatter at Brutus Hamilton Invite.
Multiple records were set last weekend at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational. In the New York Road Runner's Distance Carnival, Sam Chelanga set the new collegiate record in the 10,000, while Bay Area native and 2008 Olympian Shannon Rowbury and Philes Moraa Ongori both set world-leading and Edwards Stadium record times in the 5000 and the 10,000, respectively.
For the Bears, sophomore Michael Coe set the new school record in the mile at 3:56.18 and junior Kimyon Broom topped her previous school record in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.08. Coe's time set the fastest collegiate, U.S. and third-fastest time in the world this season thus far. Broom's time currently leads the Pac-10 and ranks seventh in the nation. Both earned Pac-10 Athlete of the Week honors for their performances.

Last Year's Payton Jordan Invitational
At last year's Payton Jordan Invitational, Katie Morgan posted a school-record mark of 13-6.25 (4.12m). It was one of 11 first-place finishes for the Bears. Artensia Young (triple jump, 12.65m), Mercedes Marchbanks (triple jump, 12.44m), Cherrelle Garrett (200, 23.88) and Jordan Paul (110-H, 13.78) all notched new personal bests that made the school's all-time top ten list in their respective events.

In the NCAA rankings
The Bears in the Top 10 of the NCAA rankings are Michael Coe, who is ranked No. 1 in the 1500 based on his mile time (3:56.18), while junior Ryan Young is fourth in the javelin (250-10, 76.45m), senior Martin Maric is No. 5 in the discus 195-9 (59.67m) and junior Yosef Ghebray is ranked No. 9 in the 10,000 (28:32.27) and. On the women's side, senior Inika McPherson is No. 4 in the high jump (6-0, 1.83m) and Kimyon Broom is No. 7 in the 100-meter hurdles (13.08).

NCAA Regional Qualifiers
Cal currently boasts 30 NCAA regional qualifiers, 14 on the women's team and 16 on the men's team. The regional qualifiers are - Brook Turner (400), Cherrelle Garret (100, 200), Debra Maier (5000), the women's 4x100 and 4x400, Allison Stokke (Pole Vault), Inika McPherson (High Jump), Kristen Meister (High Jump), Artensia Young (Triple Jump), Katie Morgan (Pole Vault), Evelyn Smith (400-H), Cyrena Giordano (Pole Vault), Kimyon Broom (100-meter hurdles), Kellan Patterson (100), Michael Coe (mile), the men's 4x100, Jordan Paul (110-H), Jake Hanson (400-H), Francis Gadayan (800), Yosef Ghebray (1500, 5000, 10,000), Eric Lee (1500), Martin Maric (Discus, Javelin), Patrick Kowalsky (Shot Put), Ryan Shuler (Pole Vault), Sebastian Sam (800) and Ryan Young (Javelin).

Next Week
Cal will compete in the Sacramento Open on May 8, while the decathletes and the heptathletes will be in Eugene, Ore., for the Pac-10 Multi Event Championships from May 9-10.
