Women's Soccer Adds Three to 2009 Signing Class

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State women’s soccer head coach Linus Rhode announced the addition of three members to the 2009 recruiting class on Thursday as the group features two athletes graduating from high school this spring as well as one transfer who is now attending OSU.


“These student-athletes add to a class that will give us the ability to create a more competitive environment while adding much-needed depth to our program,” Rhode said. “We are very excited about each player and their future at Oregon State.'


The additions to the signing class include the following players: Bailey Hewitt (F/M, 5-9, Clark Fork, Idaho; Clark Fork High School); Melinda Ingalls (M/F, 5-6, Portland, Ore.; Western Oregon University, Wilsonville High School) and Christi Wallace (MF, 5-6, Livermore, Calif.; Granada High School).


Bailey Hewitt (F/M, 5-9, Clark Fork, Idaho; Clark Fork High School)

Hewitt signs with Oregon State after a standout career at Clark Fork (Idaho) High School. During her senior year, Hewitt scored 17 goals and added six assists as the squad captured the district championship and finished fourth at the state tournament. For her efforts, Hewitt was named Inland Empire League most valuable player while earning all-league honors. In addition, she was recently named North Idaho Female Athlete of the Year. Her junior season, Hewitt was named newcomer of the year and was a first-team all-league selection with 16 goals and 10 assists. A member of the Sandpoint Strikers club squad, Hewitt participated in the Idaho Olympic Development Program and also lettered in volleyball, basketball and track.


Melinda Ingalls (M/F, 5-6, Portland, Ore.; Western Oregon University, Wilsonville High School)

Ingalls was named Most Valuable Player, Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the League during her first season at Western Oregon as she broke the single-season school record for goals scored. She was a member of the Southside Metro club team for two seasons and Westside Metro club team for one season prior to signing with WOU. Ingalls lettered in soccer at Wilsonville High School, where she was a three-time, first-team all-league selection and was a first-team all-state selection during her senior season. Ingalls has played spring ball with the Beavers and scored her first career goal in the exhibition game against the U-23 Women’s National Team.


Christi Wallace (MF, 5-6, Livermore, Calif.; Granada High School)

Wallace signs with Oregon State after lettering for four seasons in women’s soccer at Granada High School in Livermore, Calif. During her career, Wallace scored 36 goals while adding 28 assists as she was named to the East Bay Athletics League all-league squad while earning team most valuable player honors. Wallace was a three-time all-league selection during her high school career as the squad reached the quarterfinals of the NCS Championships her senior season. A member of the Livermore Arsenal club squad, Wallace also lettered in softball.


The players join Milan Cabrera (Canyon Country, Calif.), Amanda Griffin (Lake Oswego, Ore.), Sarah Leads (Carpinteria, Calif.), Lia Margolis (Park City, Utah), Lindsay Meiggs (Happy Valley, Ore.), Megan Miller (Federal Way, Wash.) and Sierra Wang (Tacoma, Wash.) as part of the incoming 2009 class.


The Oregon State women’s soccer team is wrapping up the 2009 spring schedule as the Beavers close out spring practice when they travel to Eugene, Ore., to face Oregon on Saturday, May 2, at 1:00 p.m. The Beavers return 10 starters from last year's squad that finished with a record of 6-11-2 on the season.
