Two UCLA Golfers Earn Pac-10 Honors

May 1, 2009

UCLA gofers Gregor Main and Erik Flores were among 25 players and one coach to earn 2009 All-Pacific-10 Conference honors, the league announced Friday.

Main, a 19 year-old freshman, was selected the 2009 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and earned Second-Team All-Pac-10 honors.

Flores, a 22 year-old senior, was voted to the All-Pac-10 first-team, becoming the only golfer in UCLA history to earn All-Pac-10 first-team acclaim three times.

In his first season, Main has recorded Top 10 results at the Cal Poly Invitational and the USC Invitational and five other Top 20 finishes. Through 10 starts and 30 rounds, he boasts a scoring average of 72.7 and is ranked 28th nationally.

Flores, ranked 13th, becomes one of just eight golfers in UCLA history to earn all-conference honors three times. His 72.4 scoring average is a team leader this season and he has played his last four events in 18-under par with three Top 5 results. He tied for third place earlier this week at the Pac-10 Championship, firing a final round 67 (-5), the low round of the day.
