Rowing Concludes Final Tune-up Before Pac-10 Championships

LOWELL, Ore. - The Washington State University women's rowing team dropped three of four races against conference-foe Oregon State, Saturday at Dexter Lake in the Cougars' final tune-up before the Pacific-10 Conference Championships.

The WSU second varsity eight crew continued its success as it defeated Oregon State Saturday with a time of 6:37.90, nearly six seconds ahead of the Beavers with a time of 6:43.61.

The 15th-ranked Cougar varsity eight fell to the No. 12 Beavers for the second time this season. WSU clocked a time of 6:34.86, just under three second behind OSU with a time of 6:31.95.

'We didn't have enough to beat Oregon State in the varsity eight, but it was a good race,' WSU head coach Jane LaRiviere said.

In the varsity four race, Oregon State's `A' crew placed first by nearly 10 seconds with a mark of 7:27.29. The OSU `B' boat placed second with a time of 7:36.45, followed closely by the WSU `A' crew in third with a time of 7:37.19 and the WSU `B' in fourth (7:43.55).

The Cougar novice eight `A' boat came in second just four seconds behind the Beavers with a time of 7:01.90, followed by the `B' crew with a mark of 7:26.87.

WSU takes next week off for graduation before returning to the water for the Pac-10 Championships at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif., May 16-17.
