Dawgs Back At Safeco Field This Friday
May 4, 2009
SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team will make its second appearance of the season at Safeco Field this Friday, May 8, when Oregon State comes to town for the first game of an important three-game, Pac-10 series.
Game time Friday night is 6:30 p.m., and the Safeco Field gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are only $8 per person and parking in the Safeco Field garage is just $5 (first come, first served). To purchase tickets in advance, click here or call the Husky Ticket Office at (206) 543-2200.
The Huskies (21-23 overall, 10-8 in the Pac-10) come into the series fresh from their second straight Pac-10 series sweep. The Huskies took all three from Oregon two weeks ago in Eugene and then swept USC this past weekend in Seattle. Washington has won six straight league games and nine of its last 12.
Oregon State (21-12 overall, 11-7 in the Pac-10) is tied for third place in the conference, alongside Washington State. The Beavers, ranked No. 25 in the latest Baseball American top 25, and Cougars are three-and-a-half games back of first-place Arizona State and only a half-game behind second-place UCLA. Washington is only one game behind OSU and WSU and only a game-and-a-half out of second.
The UW and OSU previously squared off at the home of the Mariners in 2007, the first time the Huskies played at Safeco. Washington beat the eventual national champs, 6-2, in that one, in front of a crowd of 10,421 fans (at the time a Pac-10 record for a conference game). Last season, the Huskies beat Arizona, 1-0, and earlier this season, Arizona State beat the Dawgs, 3-1, in the UW's other Safeco Field appearances.
If you can't make it down to Safeco, you can watch Friday's game live on Comcast SportsNet Northwest (channel 179 on Seattle-area Comcast cable) or listen live on KKNW AM-1150. The radio broadcast is also available online via gohuskies.com.
The series continues Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.) at Husky Ballpark. Both of those games will also air on KKNW radio.
