LOS ANGELES - The USC men's and women's track and field team will send a few athletes to the Occidental Invitational in Eagle Rock, Calif. on May 9, while Nia Ali and Shana Woods will begin the postseason portion for the Trojans by competing in the Pac-10 Multi-Events Championships held in Eugene, Ore. from May 9-10.

ALI & WOODS HEAD TO PAC-10 MULTI-EVENT CHAMPIONSHIPS - USC juniors Nia Ali and Shana Woods will compete at the Pac-10 Multi-Event Championships in Eugene, Ore. on May 9-10 as the first part of the Pac-10 Championships. Woods placed 3rd last season with 5,474 points and Ali had to withdraw due to hamstring soreness, but not before having an amazing first day which saw her amass 3,606 points. Woods' 3rd-place finish was the highest by a Trojan female since Nicole Haynes won the event in 1996 with a two-day total of 5,786 points, still 2nd all-time by a Trojan. Woods ranks 3rd on USC's all-time list with 5,507 points and Ali 4th with 5,492. Both athletes have the potential to score for the Trojans at the NCAAs in the heptathlon. Woods also ranks 7th all-time for a Trojan female in the long jump (20-8) and Ali ranks 4th in the 100m HH (13.14) and 8th in the high jump (5-10 3/4).

FINAL TUNE-UP FOR TROJANS - The Occidental Invitational in Eagle Rock, Calif. on May 9 will provide the Trojans with one last chance to post regional qualifying marks before next weeks Pac-10 Championships.

USC GETS HISTORIC SWEEP IN DUAL MEET - The USC men's (92-71) and women's (93-70) teams posted convincing wins over UCLA in the annual Dual Meet held at USC on May 2 making it the first time that both teams defeated their crosstown rivals in the same year. The hammer competition was held on May 1 at Mt. SAC and Eva Orban set the women's meet record (226-10). On May 2 at Loker Stadium, Corey White set the men's meet record in the javelin with a throw of 262-6. Zsofia Erdelyi was the Trojans only individual two-time winner (5000m, 1500m), but several athletes like Joey Hughes, Ahmad Rashad,Shalina Clarke, Aareon Payne and Judith Onyepunuka all won at least one event as well as being part of winning relays. Dalilah Muhammad just came up short of defeating UCLA's All-American Nicole Leach in the 400m IH, but her sizzling time of 56.58 was the third-fastest in school history.

MUHAMMAD QUICKLY HURDLES INTO THE RECORD BOOKS - Freshman Dalilah Muhammad has wasted no time in placing her name in the USC all-time top 10 in the 400m IH and it looks like it won't be long before she enters several other lists. She ran the 3rd-best 400m IH time in USC history of 56.58 at the Dual Meet on May 2 which is the 5th-fastest by a collegian this season. She has made a steady climb all season, first breaking into the USC top 10 on March 14 at the CSUN Invitational (T-8th, 59.44), taking 8th all alone on March 21 (59.01), then moved to 7th at Mt. SAC on April 18 (58.47). She has also a 100m HH time of 13.84 and a 200m time of 23.62, both regional qualifiers. She has high jumped once this season, taking 3rd at the Dual Meet with a clearance at 5-7 (1.70m) and runs on USC's 4x400m relay team.

TROJANS RUN THE GAUNTLET FOR TITLE - The USC track and field teams clinched the 2009 Lexus Gauntlet competition for USC with their sweep of the Bruins on May 2. USC entered the day needing to get a victory from either team to clinch the title and keep the trophy at Heritage Hall for another year.
