No. 25 California Tied for Ninth After Second Round of NCAA West Regional

TEMPE, ARIZ. -
The No. 25 California Golden Bears were in ninth place after 36 holes of the NCAA West Regional at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. The Bears, who had the early tee times on the first day, had to battle the desert heat on day two with temperatures hovering near 100 degrees throughout their afternoon rounds. Despite the conditions, the Bears managed to post a 297, nine-over for the day. They are +12 with a 588 overall, in a tie for ninth place. The Bears will need to finish in the top eight to advance to the NCAA National Championships.
Senior Allison Goodman, who shot a four-under in her first eighteen holes, shot an even-par 72 to remain in the top ten. She is currently sixth among individuals. Sophomore Pia Halbig posted a 73, putting her at one-over for the tournament. Halbig, who has finished in the top-ten in her last three major tournaments, is currently tied for 19th. Senior Shannon Yocum was the only Bear to lower her score in the second round, posting a 75. Diane Kwon was the fourth score for the Bears with a 77.
Arizona State continues to dominate the field, posting a 20-under on their home course. They increased their lead to 16 strokes over the second place USC Trojans. ASU's Claudia Ciganda leads the individuals at nine-under.
The Bears are three strokes off the pace to make the cut for Nationals. Arkansas and Texas A&M are tied for seventh (and the eighth and final spot) at +9. Arizona is currently tied with Cal with a 12-over, 588. Pepperdine trails in 11th place at +18.
The final round of 18 holes takes place Saturday in Tempe. Live stats will be available on golfstat.com. Cal's tee times begin at 8 a.m. with the team starting on the tenth hole.
