Wallace Is April's Best

May 8, 2009

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Darren Wallace became the third Husky to be named Pac-10 Player of the Month during the 2008-09 season.

The entire conference was on hand to see just how dominant Wallace has been during the month of April, as all 10 schools participated in the Pac-10 Championship, which Washington junior won by five strokes. Wallace was 11-under and the only golfer to card all four rounds at par or better, shooting 70-72-65-70 277 and leading Washington to its fifth Pac-10 team Championship.. During his title run, his third-round 65 set the competitive course record at the Seattle Golf Club.

In addition to winning the Pac-10 tournament, Wallace was the runner-up at the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford where he shot a Husky-record, third-round 63. He also turned in a top-20 finish at the U.S. Collegiate championship at the beginning of April -- a tournament that showcased the top 12 teams in the country. In 10 rounds this April, Wallace shot under par in seven of them as part of his torrid two months.

Wallace became the third Husky to win a conference Player of the Month award, along with teammates Nick Taylor (November, March) and Chris Killmer (September).
