Seniors Shine in Softball Season Finale

Corvallis, Ore. – The five Oregon State softball seniors played solidly in the team’s season finale on Saturday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex, but the Beavers fell 12-2 to No. 6 Arizona.


Senior Paige Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) tallied her 20th RBI of the season, scoring freshman Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.) on her sixth double of the season to left field. Lowe scored the solo run two innings later, reaching on a fielder’s choice and reaching on sophomore Audrey Roderfeld’s (Vista, Calif.) double to left center.


Senior Kellie Roberts (Stayton, Ore.) had a strong defensive showing in the field, catching a pair of fly balls to right field, while senior Cristy Hatton (Tigard, Ore.) earned her first assist as a Beaver. Senior DeAnn Young (Camarillo, Calif.) earned a hit, while going perfect in the field with a pair of putouts and assists. And senior Stefanie Ewing (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was solid behind the plate with a putout and assist.


Freshman Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) was charged with the loss after facing three batters in the first inning. Junior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) threw 6.0 innings, facing two in the seventh before redshirt freshman Karmen Holladay (Corvallis, Ore.) came in the top of the seventh. Hall reentered the game with one out in the final inning.


Arizona’s K’Lee Arredondo posted a 4-for-4 performance with two runs and five RBI. Pitcher Sarah Akamine tallied the win, while Jennifer Martinez earned the save.


Oregon State ends the 2009 season with a 25-30, 4-17 record.
