Bruins No. 2 Seed in NCAA Tournament, Host Regionals

LOS ANGELES - The Pacific-10 Conference Champion UCLA Bruins have earned a No. 2 seed for the NCAA Tournament and will host Regional play at Easton Stadium from Friday to Sunday. The Bruins will play Long Beach State in their first game on Friday at 3:30 p.m., with Fresno State and UNLV battling in the other matchup at 1 p.m.
The Bruins finished with an overall record of 41-9, winning their ninth Pac-10 title with a 16-5 record and the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. UCLA will first face at-large selection Long Beach State (34-19), which finished third in the Big West Conference with a 15-6 record. Fresno State earned the Western Athletic Conference's automatic bid after finishing first in the regular season and winning the WAC Tournament, posting a 36-18 overall record and a 15-5 mark in league. UNLV, an at-large selection from the Mountain West Conference, went 31-19 overall and 7-8 (tied for third) in conference action.
UCLA has played all three teams in its Regional this season. The Bruins defeated UNLV 9-7 on Feb. 13 in Las Vegas and Fresno State 10-2 in six innings in Cathedral City, Calif. on Feb. 22. UCLA dropped a 2-1 decision to Long Beach State at the LBSU Invitational on March 8.
