Tempe, Ariz. - Jason Franzblau threw a complete game shutout to lead the No. 4 Arizona State University baseball team to a 5-0 win over Winthrop on Sunday in front of a crowd of 2,282 at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. Cal Baseball Defeats UCLA, 8-3, to Win Pac-10 Road Series
LOS ANGELES - Powered by junior second baseman Jeff Kobernus' three hits and outstanding relief pitching by redshirt freshman Dixon Anderson, Cal baseball defeated UCLA, 8-3, Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Golden Bears ended up winning their first Pac-10 road series of the season, improving to 22-27 overall and 8-16 in the conference. The Bruins, who entered the series in second place in the league, fell to 24-24 overall and 14-10 in conference. Cal had won Friday night's game, 3-2, before losing, 9-4, Saturday. On Sunday, Kobernus hit a home run, triple and double to finish 3-for-5 with two RBI. Anderson, after earning his third save of the season Friday night, threw a career-high 6.2 innings with seven hits, one run, two walks and a career-high seven strikeouts to pick up his first collegiate victory. Stanford Defeats New Mexico 9-4 Behind Milleville's Slam and Fearnow's Relief
STANFORD, Calif. - Brent Milleville's third grand slam of the season highlighted Stanford's seven-run second inning, while Max Fearnow held the nation's top offense in check over a career-best 5.2-relief innings as the Cardinal (25-21) cruised to a 9-4, rubber game win over visiting New Mexico (33-18) at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. Stanford captured its second consecutive series, winning two of three non-conference games this weekend against a Lobos club that is just 1.0-game behind 15th-ranked TCU in the Mountain West Conference.
