Sophomore Valerie Arioto Earns a Spot on All-Pac-10 First Team

Sophomore pitcher/ first baseman Valerie Arioto was named First Team All-Pac-10 in post-season honors released by the Conference. Freshman outfielder Jamia Reid earned second team honors with four other Cal players earning honorable mentions.
Valerie Arioto was named to the All-Pac-10 First Team. Arioto, who doubles as a pitcher and a first baseman for the Bears, is hitting .344 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI. She had a 2.45 ERA with 165 strikeouts in the circle this season. This is the first First Team honor for Arioto who was a second team honoree last season as a freshman along with teammates Sanoe Kekahuna and Gina Leomiti. Arioto is the first Bear to be named to the First Team since Kristina Thorson and Haley Woods both earned First Team honors in 2006.
Freshman Jamia Reid, the Pac-10 stolen base leader, earned second team honors. Reid finished the regular season as the Bears leading hitter, posting a .345 batting average with seven home runs.
All-Pac-10 honors are determined by a vote of the eight head coaches in the Conference. There are 14 players named to the first team and 14 to the second team. The All-Freshman team also consists of 14 honorees.
