No. 9 Stanford Falls To No. 8 USC 4-2 In NCAA Round of 16

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- No. 8 USC posted a 4-2 victory over No. 9 Stanford on Thursday afternoon in an NCAA Round of 16 contest in College Station, Texas.
Making its 30th NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, Stanford (20-6, 3-3 Pac-10) was playing in its first round of 16 match since 2006.
Thursday's meeting was the third between the two teams in 2009. Stanford defeated USC 4-3 in Los Angeles before the Trojans returned the favor with a 4-3 victory at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium one month later. USC's victory counted in the Pac-10 standings.
USC claimed a hard-fought doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
Trailing 3-1, Stanford snagged its second point when Bradley Klahn outlasted Steve Johnson 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1).
But Robert Farah secured the match for the Trojans with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex Clayton in a battle of top-25 players at the No. 1 spot.
