Washington State Rowing Heads to Pac-10 Championships

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University rowing team will hit the water Sunday, May 17 for the 2009 Pacific-10 Conference Championships held at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif...racing will begin at 8 a.m. with the women's varsity four heats...second varsity eight will begin at 8:20 a.m. followed by the varsity eight heats at 8:40 a.m....novice eight round out the morning schedule with heats beginning at 9 a.m....racing resumes Sunday afternoon with petite finals beginning at 1:10 p.m. and the grand finals starting at 1:50 p.m.

The Field: All seven Pac-10 institutions that sponsor women's rowing as a varsity sport, California, UCLA, Oregon State, USC, Stanford, Washington and WSU, will compete...in addition, four nonconference squads will partake in the contest but be ineligible for regatta scoring, including; UC Davis, Gonzaga, Sacramento State and Saint Mary's...Oregon will compete in the novice eight race.

2008 Pac-10 Championships: The Cougars tied their second-highest placing at the Pac-10 Championships with a third place finish at the 2008 Pac-10 Rowing Championships...California took home the team title with 79 points, followed by Stanford (61 points) and WSU (59 points)...the WSU varsity eight and novice eight each finished third, while the varsity four came in fourth and the second varsity eight in fifth

Last Outing: Washington State crossed the border to take on Oregon State, May 2 at Dexter Reservoir in Lowell, Ore. The second varsity eight boat notched the only WSU victory on the day, while the No. 15 varsity eight boat finished 2.91 seconds behind the 12th-ranked Beavers.

Pac-10 Highly Ranked: All seven Pac-10 varsity eight boats are ranked in the CRCA/U.S. Rowing Varsity Eight Top-20 Poll...Stanford and California came in first and second, respectively, in the latest poll...WSU remained at No. 15.

Seeding: The Pac-10 has released its seedings for each of the four races...the WSU varsity eight is seeded sixth...the second varsity eight is seeded fourth...the varsity four is seeded sixth...the novice eight is seeded third...the Cougars will race in the second heat in the varsity four (lane three), varsity eight (lane three) and novice eight (lane two)...they will be in the first heat in the second varsity eight (lane two).
