Junior Kimyon Broom won the Pac-10 title in the 100-meter hurdles Sunday at the Pac-10 Championships at Hayward Field on the Oregon campus. Broom and senior Inika McPherson (high jump) won the two conference titles for California this weekend. As a team, the Cal men finished in seventh with 66 points, with the Cal women also came in seventh with 58 points.

Oregon claimed both the men's and the women's team titles.

'There were some highlights, but there were also some stumbles,' said director of track and field Tony Sandoval. 'Many people consider this to be one of the best collegiate meets in the country, and some of the events here featured the best collegiate athletes in the country.'

Broom successfully defended her Pac-10 title when she clocked a school-record time of 13.02 to take first in the 100-meter hurdles. She posted a wind-aided time of 13.03 in yesterday's prelims. She topped her previous school-record time of 13.08, which she set at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational last month.

'Our biggest highlight today was Kimyon's performance,' Sandoval said. 'It was a dominating performance. It wasn't close right from the start. She has emerged as an elite collegiate hurdler.'

Senior Katie Morgan took second in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 13-10.00 (4.22m), while sophomore Cyrena Giordano notched a personal-best mark of 13-04.25 (4.07m) to take fourth overall. The two gave the Bears a combined 13 points.

'The girl from Oregon who won the pole vault PRed three times and Katie kept matching her every time,' Sandoval said. 'Eventually the home crowd lifted the girl from Oregon, but it was a great showing by Katie and Cyrena PRed for us, which was great.'

Senior Jordan Paul clocked a time of 13.66 in the 110-meter hurdles to place second and that time ranks fourth all-time in school history.

'Jordan beat some very good people today,' Sandoval said. 'He's ready to move up to the next level.'

Sophomore Cherrelle Garrett tallied a time of 11.38 for the second straight day in the 100-meter dash, finishing second in the event. Senior Martin Maric took second in the discus and senior Jake Hanson came in second in the 400-meter hurdles.

'Jake ran great today,' Sandoval said. 'The time wasn't as fast as I had originally thought, but it was really windy out there. Martin was also very good today. He's ready to do well at NCAAs.'

Cal has next week off as it prepares for the NCAA West Regional in two weeks in Eugene, Ore.
