SEATTLE - Husky men's tennis top gun Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan is set to begin his first run at the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships, with first round matches scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, at the Mitchell Tennis Center hosted by Texas A&M.

In the first round Nedunchezhiyan will be matched up against Notre Dame's Brett Helgeson with a 12 noon Pacific start time. The Fighting Irish senior is ranked 31st in the nation and is making his second NCAA Singles appearance. Helgeson went 13-10 at No. 1 singles, with 16 of those matches coming against ranked opponents.

If Nedunchezhiyan gets past Helgeson, he will face either the No. 2 overall seed, Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State, or Alexey Tsyrenov of Auburn on Thursday.

Nedunchezhiyan is ranked 43rd heading into the tourney and was an All-Pac-10 First Team selection. He brings a 20-8 singles record into the tournament. The sophomore would need two victories this week to reach the round of 16 and earn ITA All-American honors.

Three Huskies have reached the NCAA semifinals over the past 10 years, all under current head coach Matt Anger. Alex Slovic was the last to make a final four run in 2007.
