No. 15 Beavers Selected For IRA Championships
May 19, 2009
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's men's rowing team is set to take three crews to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships after being selected as an at-large team on Tuesday.
The Beavers will be making their 16th consecutive appearance in the IRA Championships and will participate in the first ever West Coast version of the regatta. Races will be held on the same Lake Natoma course that the Beavers raced on during the Pac-10 Championships.
Oregon State received an at-large berth in the IRAs after finishing one spot shy of an automatic qualification at the Pac-10 Championships. The No. 15 Beavers' Varsity 8+ will see many prior opponents at the IRAs, having competed against seven of the 20 other crews in the event.
In addition to its V8+, Oregon State will also travel to Rancho Cordova, Calif. with Freshman 8+ and Open 4+ crews. The F8+ will take on crews from Pac-10 rivals Washington, Stanford, and California, as well as prior non-conference opponents Gonzaga and Wisconsin. Oregon State's O4+ will compete against 11 other crews, including those from Washington, California, and Wisconsin.
The IRA Championships are scheduled for the weekend of June 4-6 and will be held on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif. Check back with osubeavers.com next week for a full preview of the Beavers races. Visit row2k.com for more information on the IRA Championships.
