Chizever and Zerbini Set for NCAA Doubles Championship Run

BERKELEY - The No. 19-ranked California men's tennis doubles team of senior Geoff Chizever and sophomore Pedro Zerbini are set to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Doubles Championship at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. The Golden Bear tandem will take on the No. 33-ranked doubles team of Aleksandr Seleznev and Tobias Fanselow of Old Dominion in the first round Thursday, May 21. Match time will be determined according to the end of the morning's singles championship matches.

The duo completed the regular season with a team-high 24-11 doubles record and posted a 12-7 record on the top court in duals. Their wins helped Cal claim the doubles point in 14 matches this year. Along the way, Zerbini and Chizever recorded marquee victories over No. 5-ranked Donato and Foegelman of North Carolina (8-6), No. 3 Brugues and Stephens of Tulsa (8-6) and No. 38 el-Effendi and Walsh of SMU (8-2).
