May 21, 2009
SEATTLE - Washington senior swimmer Yonatan Cohen was named to the College Sports Information Directors Association Academic All-District First Team on Thursday, joining nine other athletes on the first team in the District 8 At-Large Division.
Cohen, who carries an incredible 3.97 grade point average while majoring in Math and Physics, owns the highest GPA among all of Washington's student athletes. He will now move on to the national ballot for the At-Large ESPN Academic All-America team.
In the pool, Cohen swam the second-fastest time in the 100 breast in UW history this year and also posted the third-fastest time ever in the 200 breast, both of which came during the 2009 Pac-10 Championships. He was among 12 Husky men who competed at the 2009 NCAA Championships, helping the 400 medley relay set a new school record.
The Neve-Monoson-Yahud, Israel, native was one of five seniors on the UW men's team, which finished 16th at NCAAs, their highest finish in 30 years.
Cohen was named to the All-District Second Team last year.
